Fire Damage To A Race Car At Jerry Bickel

On Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 10:27 A.M. Lincoln County Firefighters were dispatched to Raceway Park Drive, South of Moscow Mills for a reported building fire at Jerry Bickel Race Cars.  On arrival, Firefighters found heavy fire inside a 4,000 square foot building, detached from the main shop.  The building housed several race cars, an RV, enclosed trailer, parts and equipment, and was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

A security system malfunction shortly after the fire started alerted the monitoring company to send a Police Officer to the building for a burglar alarm sounding.  The Officer arrived, found the building on fire and called for Firefighters to respond.

Fire Investigators from Lincoln County Fire as well as the State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted the Fire Investigation.  Footage from a surveillance camera located inside the building was reviewed.  Smoke could be seen building at the ceiling level starting at 10:15 A.M.  Seven minutes later the camera failed, likely due to the fire/heat.  The review provided no evidence of where the fire started inside the building.

Further investigation was difficult due to the extent of damage, but investigators believe the building’s electrical system in the area of origin is the potential accidental cause.  Further investigation will be conducted with hopes of revealing the exact cause of the fire.

In all, 20 fire trucks and 36 Firefighters responded to the scene.  Lincoln County Firefighters thank Wentzville Fire, Lake St. Louis Fire, Wright City Fire, Old Monroe Fire, Northwest Fire, Hawk Point Fire, Lincoln County Ambulance District Paramedics and Lincoln County Central Dispatch for their response and assistance to the Jerry Bickel Fire.  We appreciate your help.
